Pet Therapy Dog

Bodhi of the Rockies

Hello everyone, it’s me…Bodhi! Thanks for reading my blog!

I feel pretty honored that I get to wear a badge and visit people in the hospital. I make people smile…that’s pretty powerful.

You know that movie Monsters Inc where at the end they are collecting laughter and smiles? I could do that…and my smile meter would explode.

I love my job

It’s pretty cool to be a therapy dog. I get to make people smile and in return I get petted and petted, and even hugged. And told I’m handsome (they really love my amber eyes). And treats too, some of the staff have treats. I love that.

It’s pretty much a win-win situation here.

I have business cards too

Mom even made business cards for me. People think those are pretty cool. The card say I am an “Ambassador of Joy”. The card doesn’t lie.

You wouldn’t believe how crazy people go when they see me, especially when I wear a tie. I have a few bow ties but today had a snazzy neck tie from my groomer, and I must admit, I rocked it. People always (and I mean ALWAYS) tell me how handsome I am, but today, wow, that tie took me over the top.

Handsome Boy…that’s me!

Today I got so much attention! Even before we entered the building, some women (they had Goldens like me too) petted me and yes, told me I was handsome.

The lobby was full of people today. A whole line of them walked by and petted me…I felt like I was in a parade. And a few groups of nursing students went crazy when they saw me and petted me, hugged me, and even took pictures. Mom couldn’t even get to the volunteer office to take off her coat!

People are always taking pictures of me. I’m a pretty humble guy but I admit I do love that.

It’s an easy job

So it’s a pretty easy job…I go over to people and stand there and wag my tail. And bring them joy. I don’t get paid in human money, but mom says I am priceless.

Sometimes I see people down the hall and wag my tail, and they smile and come over to pet me (and tell me I’m handsome…gee, I might get a big head soon!). I love to look down the hall into the surgery area when the big doors open. Staff down there see me but sometimes they can’t come out to pet me…something about being sterile. Hey, I’m clean!

Today I was visiting staff in a back office. One patient was there behind a curtain and when she was asked if she wanted to see a dog, she said “oh my gosh yes” and threw back the curtain (good thing she had clothes on!). You humans are pretty funny sometimes.

I can see their smiles

Even with everyone wearing masks, I can see their smiles when they see me. The staff really appreciates me and mom volunteering, and they are so nice to tell us that often too.

A lot of people say their dogs at home will be jealous when they smell me on their person, but I think their dogs will be all excited to smell me. I’m a rock star, you know.

A handsome one.
